The boring everyday human task of homework was something that Alice would never find a liking for. She didn't know if she'd had any when she had been in school in her mortal years, but she bet that if she had gone to school she would have hated it just as much.
Tapping her pencil in an annoying fashion on the paper she sighed. She was so tired of the repeated practice problems. Just as she was about to start drawing on her immaculately clean homework she tilted her head.
Music started to drift up to the next floor as someone began to play the piano. The keys danced in the style of a waltz for a while lulling up the stairs.
Alice grinned. Apparently Edward would be home very soon and he'd be on the piano. It had been a few days since she'd heard he adoptive brother caressing the instrument. Bella probably had work.

Edward was sitting at the Cullens Mansion living room, not having a clue of what to do. He had finished his homework a while ago, and was starting to get bored. Edward had asked himself a couple of times weather to visit Bella or not, but he always ended up remembering about the same fact: Bella was off to work.
Edward, then, looked casually at the piano. It had been a while since he hadn't played. He stood up, and sat in front of it. It didn't take long before his fingers started dancing around the keys. Edward had been spending most of his time with Bella, and he had almost forgotten how much he enjoyed playing the piano.
As he played, Edward's mind had the tendency to fly away, and he always ended up wondering where he was when he stopped. He wondered if there was anyone home, and it didn't take long before he noticed Alice. Her thoughts were clear inside his head, she couldn't be that far away.

The math book she had been reading snapped shut and she stood up wandering to the desk and putting it down. It was only a matter of time now before he wandered over to the piano. Alice shook her head. "I swear it's like a magnet drawing him in," she mused, smiling.
Her smile widened when she heard the piano start up. Right on time. The music started to drift up to the next floor as someone, most likely Edward, began to play the piano. The keys danced in the style of a waltz for a while lulling up the stairs.
She opened her door quietly and danced down the hall stopping at the top of the stairs and leaned over the banister slightly, listening to the music. After a moment of appreciation she skipped down the stairs only to stop at the doorway of the room as Edward stopped.
"Now you know stopping so soon is called being a tease Edward," she said, her voice ringing out in the sudden silence as she pretended to chastise him. If there was one ability Alice loved about dear Edward it was his music. It always made her break into a smile and wander towards the source of the sound. It was easier than drawing flies with honey.

"Now you know stopping so soon is called being a tease Edward"
Edward laughed lightly at Alice's comment. "You are right. And how do we call a girl who stops doing whatever she was doing to call her brother a tease?", he asked himself, pretending to think of an answer. "Oh, yeah. We usually call her 'Alice'", he finished. Edward was sure his joke wouldn't be as nearly as fun as he wanted it to, but he had to try.
Edward turned his gaze to the piano, wondering what to play next. "What's your favorite song?", he asked Alice.

Alice rolled her eyes at Edward's joke and danced across the wood floor to him, smiling. "Well go on then. Play us a little diddy," she said, mirth shining in her eyes. It certainly had been a while since they'd had any time to joke around like this. Then again with a wonderfully lovable, yet klutzy girlfriend like Bella it was easily understandable why.
Her eyes lit up when he gave her the chance to request something. Alice bit her lip lightly, trying to decide. She'd always loved the way he played Chopin yet she wanted something she could dance to. The music had gotten to her and she suddenly felt the need to prance around like a silly human girl twirling and leaping. The thought of telling him to play a piece from the Nutcracker formed in her mind for a moment but she knew he would roll his eyes at her since she had him play it around Christmas last year.

Edward laughed slightly when he heard Alice's thoughts: she wanted him to play a piece from the Nutcracker. Again. And it wasn't even Christmas yet. "You really never get tired of this piece, do you?", he asked, and then looked to the piano again. Well, if that was what Alice wanted, that was what he would play. "Oh, but there's a condition", Edward said before he started playing, "You have to dance".
Before even waiting for Alice's reply, Edward started to play the main piece of the Nutcracker. No wonder why Alice liked it, it was indeed very pretty, the melody was great. He looked at her, and waited to see if she was really going to start dancing.

Alice narrowed her eyes slightly as he began to play realizing the sneaky guy had been in her thoughts. That wasn't playing fair now was it? Edward's voice broke into her thoughts and she raised a brow. He expected her to dance?
Well she hated to disappoint and the music was just so nice...
Shaking her head Alice grinned and swooped down from her standing position to give him a light hug and skipped off away from the piano to start gallivanting about. "Thank you!"

"Your welcome", Edward laughed, as he watched Alice. Usually he would just keep his gaze on his fingers, to make sure he wouldn't screw up and ruin everything. But yet, he knew this piece far too well, more than he would like to. Edward had to play it every year on Christmas, or even when it was not Christmas, like this situation.
Edward watched as Alice made her graceful moves. She was graceful enough when she wasn't dancing. But if you put her on a dance floor, her movements would get twice as pretty.
"If only Jasper was here", Edward said casually, still playing, "Then I could play a waltz so you guys could dance together", he grinned.

Alice's bell like laugh mingled with the music. "That's only if you could convince him to dance," she called to him, swaying her arms and moving into a spin. Though Alice had never taken dance as a human, as far as she knew, it was something she loved.
She had yet to convince Carlisle and Esme to go to see a Russian ballet performance. They'd toured the U.S. recently but it had only been in brightly lit cities that everyone knew they couldn't chance it in. Alice had understood but the want to see them still surged on.
"Besides he isn't even home as far as I know," she said, pouting a bit. Now that she thought about it...a waltz sounded quite nice. All of the one two three, one two three across the dance floor seemed to lull Alice into a peaceful state. The rhythm pulsing over and over.

"That's only if you could convince him to dance"
Edward rolled his eyes at Alice's comment. "Well, that would be easier than you think. You just have to make that lost-puppy-with-glistening-eyes face and everyone will just fall for you", he said, laughing a little, as he finished playing the piece. "I mean, look at me. I've just played you that Nutcracker piece. Again. And you didn't even had to convince me", Edward said, wondering what else to play.
Edward spent a few moments thinking, but he had no idea of which piece to play next. "Do you mind dancing by yourself? I'm feeling like playing a waltz right now", he said.

"I think I've used up all the ones for this month on last week's shopping trip," she said teasingly and did a final spin before lifting her arms gracefully and coming to a stop with the music. Turning she smiled at Edward, her eyes twinkling with merriment like a Christmas Elf.
As he sat at the piano, probably slipping back into his own world, Alice bounded over to him and leaned lightly on the edge of the piano, elbows propped up and fists balled at her cheeks as she rested them on them to watch him.
After a few moments she heard him speak up, "Do you mind dancing by yourself? I'm feeling like playing a waltz right now."
Her expression that had started to sink into boredom perked up to that of excitement and she grinned. "Sure thing Maestro!"
Alice skipped away from the piano and pretended to put her arms in the appropriate places of an invisible dance partner. She tilted her head to the side and looked at Edward as if to say 'ready when you are'.

"Gosh. You and your shopping trips", Edward rolled his eyes. He knew how much women liked shopping, but the thing with Alice wasn't normal. She was able to spend a whole week shopping and come back saying she wanted more money so she could get those pretty shoes she saw the other day.
Edward laughed at Alice's excitement when she suddenly skipped away from the piano and pretended to hold an invisible partner. He then got himself ready, "A five, six, seven, eight!", he said, and started to play. Edward had chosen the most typical of all the waltzes, the plain one-two-three one. He wanted to see how Alice was going to dance by herself. If she succeeded, he would move on to more complicated pieces.

Without pause, Alice started moving fluidly across the floor in time to the music. Shoulders straight and posture perfect she seemed to float about as the music carried on. The only thing that ruined the graceful picture was the ridiculous grin on the girl's face.
She continued to do the routine box-step and even started to murmur one two three under her breath in time to the music. If it had, had words, she'd probably have sung them but since there were none she improvised.
"So, not that I'm not terribly excited to see you here and have some alone time with my least obnoxious brother," she said, sending him a wink as she and her imaginary partner started around the piano, "but where is dear Bella?"

"So, not that I'm not terribly excited to see you here and have some alone time with my least obnoxious brother, but where is dear Bella?"
"Well, 'dear Bella' is at work" Edward said, watching as Alice danced around with her arms wrapped around an invisible partner. Anyone who arrived on that moment would think she was getting crazy. But she didn't seem to care. "You know, she has to get some money, before you two decide to go shopping again", he said with a grin. Edward could certainly help her with the money part, but Bella just wouldn't accept it.
"I wonder if you know how long she will be there?", he asked. Edward didn't really like the fact that Bella worked with a guy who actually liked her.

Alice rolled her eyes at her brother's impatience. Sometimes it was just fun to watch him get annoyed about not being around Bella. "She'll be wishing for you to call in a little over an hour when she's doing her final trash detail."
After another moment she added, "And she probably ended up mopping again so if she has any bruises don't embarrass her."
With those words of wisdom she continued to waltz about the room, enjoying her limited time with Edward now that Bella would be free shortly. She had to say, waltzing alone was not the most fun in the world.
