It was a Friday night and Alice was on a mission. She'd convinced Charlie to let Bella and herself have control of the television for the night in hopes of introducing Bella to some decent cinematography. You'd never know it by looking at her, but Alice was a big fan of the old movies...Or old books turned into movies.
She was determined however to get Bella interested in Jane Austen instead of her strange (strange to Alice at least) obsession with one of the Brontes. How could someone love Heathcliff after seeing Colonel Brandon or Mr. Darcy or Edward Ferrars?
She pranced about the kitchen making popcorn for her human friend before placing it on the table in front of the couch. Perfect.

Bella came downstairs from taking her shower and smelled popcorn. What on earth? she thought. She followed the smell into the television room and saw a big bowl of popcorn sitting on the table and Alice flitting about the TV.
"Alice, what's going on?" she asked.
"Charlie let us have the TV room for the night, Bella," she said, not turning from the TV.
"Ok, why and, more importantly, how?" she asked, curious.

Alice bounded onto the couch and curled up at one of the ends, covering herself with a blanket that was on the back of the couch. She patted the spot next to her. "It's really not that hard Bella," she said, tilting her head.
"I just asked Charlie if it would be alright. And as for the why," she said. "I am introducing you to the wonderful world of Austen." Alice was beaming by now and reached over to grab the controller off the table.

"You can't be serious?" Bella asked, a laugh in her voice. She walked towards the couch where Alice was sitting, but ended up tripping over a stray shoe and flipping over the back of the couch. Her head landed in Alice's lap before she rolled onto the ground.
"Oomph," she breathed and laid there for a moment trying to catch her breath. When she sat up, she ignored Alice and grabbed the other blanket off of the back of the couch and reclined back on the couch, covering up.

"Can't be serious?" Alice questioned, raising a brow and looking at Bella. She waited a moment as Bella started to fall and waited for her to finish her little trip.
She smiled politely as her friend gathered her bruised dignity and sat on the couch with her own blanked.
"I'm as serious as the cute little bruise you're going to have to explain tomorrow to Edward when he comes over for lunch....to make sure you survived movie night."
"Which you will by the way," she added, pressing the power buttons for the TV and for the DVD player.

Bella glared at Alice and reached across to the table to grab the bowl of popcorn.
"I don't know if I'll survive or not, Alice. And Edward knows just as well as everyone else that I can't stay in an upright position to save my life," she said, laughing just a little bit.
As Alice hit the play button, Bella relaxed back into the couch and waited to see what was so special about what Alice wanted to show her.

"Hmm...you're probably right," Alice said, tilting her head, as if thinking. "But you hopefully will at least try tonight, or my efforts of saving the TV from more sports will be ruined and we can't have that now can we?"
She placed the controllers down and glanced at Bella, "Have some popcorn. Charlie said it spelled quite nice."

Bella rolled her eyes and dropped a handful of popcorn in her mouth. She doubted this was going to be interesting and, as Alice became engrossed in the movie, doubted they would even be talking much.
About halfway through the movie, Bella started to nod off. Realizing Alice wouldn't be too happy with that, she shook herself awake and looked around for something to preoccupy her time. Making up her mind at the last second, she picked up some popcorn and started to throw it at Alice's head.

Alice tried to ignore her human companion's fidgeting as Edward Ferrars left the screen. She tilted her head slightly and looked at the screen blankly before glancing at Bella. The sounds of the movie were the only things heard in the room for the next few minutes. Looking up again, Alice looked at Bella who was starting to wake up after nodding off.
A bowl of popcorn sat in Alice's lap in case Charlie came in for appearances. She saw Bella out of the corner of her eye reaching for a handful. Before they could reach their mark however Alice had flung some back at Bella, intercepting all of the oncoming popcorn.
She smiled sweetly at Bella before throwing one more piece, aiming for the girl's forehead. "Pay attention," she said teasingly. "For how much you love Cathrine and Heathcliff you might like the sad love of Colonel Brandon and, well I won't spoil it."
