I walk silently through the opening of the wood and walk straight for fifteen minutes. I felt the pepper-spray in my pockets, that i would use if anyone came into my way, nudging my front left leg. I sat down on an old log that must have plopped over a decade ago, with a bunch of moss growing around it's every curve.
And yet.. I didn't mind. Nature is my middle name, well not literally, but I love it. i started picking at the moss to see a forest green under belly of it. Every part of the earth is so fascinating in it's own ways. I kicked the dirt below my feet, when I saw a baby dove land on the Forrest-green moss beside me. The white of it was stunningly beautiful.
I slowly and carefully placed my palm out with an index finger spread out separately just incase if it didn't want to stand on a full hand. It jumped onto my palm, and I slowly brought it back to my lap. Then I noticed the little ring around it's left leg, with all the numbers and letters on it. I turned my waist to face the backpack i had brought with me.
I knew it would be cruel to stuff any creature into a bag, and I agreed with that. Which is why I always had a little cage, just incase if i saw an animal hurt at all. This bird wasn't injured but according to the brace around it's leg it belonged to someone. I set it into the 5"x7" cage which was plenty big for this little bird. It even had enough room to flap it's paper white wings around a bit.
"Good Girl." I spoke to it poking my finger into the cage stroking the birds neck. "I'll find your owners." If i don't find the owners I decided I would keep the little bird.
Then I heard noises coming from all over, and got a little spooked.
