If people work hard enough, they get rewards. At least, that’s the society’s unspoken rule, right? You get what you put into it. In the blistering heat that encompassed the small shed, Jacob was anticipating when he’d get his fair share. He’d whisper words of encouragement at each attempt to awaken the mass of metal, coaxing life into it as urgently as someone trying to breathe life into a drowned man. “C’mon..,” he’d whisper, fighting futilely with the inexorable silence, “don’t fail me now!”
Considering all the trouble he’d gone through to get a master cylinder, justice was sure to strike soon. He winced slightly at the memory. The motivation behind his uninvited appearance at Fork’s prom wasn’t easy to forget. In fact, forgetting was wishful thinking. He had the evidence, his so-called ‘payment’ for his services, right under the Rabbit’s hood. And, of course, who couldn’t ignore the increasingly annoying conversations with Billy? He had thought the worst of it was good and done, but it seemed the intensity of his father’s superstitions had swelled. Not only that: Jacob’s rapid growth spurt sent him into a constant state of distraction. Whatever, let the old man sulk and get lost in prehistoric fables.
Luckily, his well-earned prize gave him a reasonable excuse to steer clear from the house. He’d spend hours in that tight, familiar space, putting his mechanical skills to the test. If it weren’t for Quil and Embry’s friendly reminders that civilization still existed, Jacob would be surprised at night’s sudden emergence above the shelter of trees.
But this day was different. Weeks of giving special attention to a so far fruitless project had pushed him into a flurry of emotions. First, it was excitement; then, it was irritation. Now, however, he was about to reach desperation. Probably the most obvious thing was wrong, and he was blind to it. He pulled the keys from the ignition, curling them up into a tight fist as he kicked the door wide open. Great - he’d scraped the repaired interior. With a gruff sigh, he walked towards the opening of the shed, turning out the lights. The sudden brightness outside rendered him blind for a prolonged moment, and he blinked rapidly to clear his vision and his mindset. He needed fresh air, a break. And he knew the perfect place.
The rocky shores stretched out ahead of him, an impossible expanse of land melting into sea. He stepped over to a large driftwood log and plopped down, stretching out his tensed muscles and closing his eyes. The rhythmical crash of waves was a fine relaxation method, while the cool air was a balm. At last, he found he could let go of current frustrations by counting the sea’s steady pulse, listening for any slight interference with its calm pace.

It was a long day, and I was experiencing some severe boredom so I decided to go relax at the Beach. I parked my car on the side of the road, and noticed the tall and familiar boy on the log. I crawled out of my car, and ran gracefully to sit down with him. I made my way the the large log, and stood out in front of Jacob. "Hey Jake!" My voice ran smoothly with the wind, against the crashing of waves on the shoreline, and hiding rocks. Standing up right next to him was like standing next to a giraffe, he is seriously tall. Even with Jacob sitting down my body was at least a good five inches shorter than him. "How are things?" Then I noticed the anger on his face. He must have broken one of his tools, or something again. I plopped down next to him and stared out to the ocean, and the large cliffs bouldering over us.

He was falling straight into a comatose when the friendly voice broke through the stillness. He started, shaking the log with jerky movements from his tall, lanky frame, looking around a bit wildly for the anonymous speaker. Of course, Jacob had a good guess as to who it was, so the sight of Emily's smiling face wasn't a shocker. Relaxing, he returned a sheepish grin, and then tried to wipe the last remnants of sleep away with a hearty yawn. "Hey, Emily! Good, good, I guess. Wait a second for my brain to catch up and I'll give a more accurate answer."
As he said this, a nagging question stewed. Something was different about her. Like when someone gets a haircut and you overlook it, staring outright but coming up with nothing to account for the change. Realization struck soon enough. He'd rarely seen Emily without Sam glued to her side. At remembering the guy who was often treated as an almighty leader, his expression turned a bit sour. Don't even mention the other two who played posse. Even his father respected them. Well, Billy's judgment wasn't exactly the most accurate thing to go by, and this lowered his spirits further.
Still, he wasn't about to show it outright. Flashing a smile towards his unexpected company, he finally asked, "So, how've you been? I hardly get the chance to run into you solo. What brings you here?"

Jacob's grin was always heartwarming making him like a big teddy bear. It made my grin grow wider. I swirled in my seat, it was uncomfortable with all the pokey edges hitting my bottom, so I switched seats. I moved from the log to sitting on the sandy beach, much more comfortable.
I could tell he noticed my singleness. Usually sam was glued to me, but what could I say we were happy in love. Then Jacob made me laugh with his Wait a second for my brain to catch up and I'll give a more accurate answer It made me giggle a little.
So, how've you been? I hardly get the chance to run into you solo. What brings you here? I searched my entire head for an reasonable answer, and I could only think of one or two things. Sam's trip to with Quil to go pickup my niece was one of them for his concentration on my empty sides, the other I was just bored, and needed some entertainment.
"Sam went with Quil to pickup my niece." I giggled at the thought of my Niece and Quil being as in love as Sam, and I are in the future. "Quil really adores her. The other reason is pretty much because I needed something to engross me away from boredom." I laughed to myself, and stared down at my feet for a few seconds to compare, Jacob's large feet, and my tiny size 6. If there was one thing people could never miss about Jacob, and thats simply how tall he was.
I rolled onto a new subject, getting easily bored with the old one. "Well. How's the old rabbit going? I don't see your car anywheres. Then again, your starting to walk more, and more. Not to mention your major growth spurt!" I said in one large breath. I started to pick up little pieces of sand at a time, then throwing them down towards me feet. While staring at Jacob strait in his expression filled face. A little bit of stress, and happiness.

I was running along the beach- It was my daily workout. As I was running, I saw Jake and Emily talking. I ran over to them and said, "Hey, Jake! Hey, Em! What are you guys talking about?" I saw Jacob's dazzling smile. Oh, his smile... I sank into a dreamy faze that I always went into when Jake was around. Course, his happiness catches on, so I had to smile too. I always smiled when Jake was happy. I was mad when he was mad. I cried when he cried. Basically, I was either happy with Jake, angry with Jake, sad with Jake, or crying over Jake. He was my world. My best friend... at least in my opinion. Course, the crush thing ruined things but... Then, I shook myself mentally. I was right in front of him, I can't day dream! He'll notice!

Her laughter was natural, void of stiffness and forced cordiality, and Jacob couldn't keep his mood from elevating. "There's nothing like a trip to the beach to cure your boredom. 'Course, I fell asleep, so I guess I need a new prescription. I'm glad its effectiveness hasn't worn out on you yet, though." He chuckled, his previous drowsiness fading, replaced by a piqued interest. It was much more demanding to him and he automatically sat up straighter in response. After all, it wasn't every day that he got to speak to Emily without her second shadow.
"Yeah, I'm growing like a weed. If my dad had a way to stop it, I'm sure he would. With every inch added, he looks at me as if doomsday is coming. I'm afraid he'll soon commit me to a circus or the NBA. I think the bearded lady would be better company than he's been lately, anyway." He grinned widely, assuring her that it was a joke, despite the bit of truth that hovered beneath it. "The Rabbit's almost finished. With just a paint job and a cleaned out interior, she's already looking like new. The only problem is she doesn't run. That may be a bigger dilemma than anything else, but I prefer to stay optimistic."
Jacob eased his fingers into the sand, watching the tiny fragments catch the wind, trying to find some distraction from questions he wanted to lay out. As if the fate's had heard him, he turned to see a recognizable figure heading towards them. A full out smile stretched over his lips, and he returned her enthusiastic wave, "Hey, Alina! Come join our assembly. We're currently discussing the worldwide issue of a useless vehicle."

I laughed. "Hey, at least you have a vehicle, even if it is worthless! Anyways, after you're done with it, I'm sure it'll be worth millions of dollars!" I joked. "Promise you'll take me for a spin when you get it working? That way we can go in The Rabbit and listen to hip hop music! Get it? Hip Hop music! See? Its punny!" Did I just say that?! God, I am such a freaking nerd! Punny?! I hate when I act like that around him- I never know what to say! I blushed a little, then smiled weakly. I still could not believe I let the word 'punny' escape my lips. Especially in front of him!

"That's good Jacob. Better to be optimistic then pessimist." I laughed. Alina stoon near Jacob grinning her face off. Which must've made Jacob grin, grow. "And yes. I agree! You are officially a weed."
Alina began talking to Jacob, entering our little conversation, then she said.. Get it? Hip Hop music? See! It's punny! That right there had made my day. I laughed so hard it sent my head flying backwards.
"I cannot believe you just said that!" I spoke still giggling. "That's funny!" I said starting to fiddle with the sand again. I shook my head with, a grin on my face, giggling to myself.

As Emily laughed, I mentally beat myself up in multiple ways in my mind. After I had been burned, slapped, kicked in the gut, and strangled, I said, "Yeah, I really don't know what I was thinking with the 'punny' thing. I guess I wasn't thinking!" I fake laughed a little nervously, blush climbing up my body from my toes to my forehead. Oh God. How the hell did I get into this one?!

I noticed that Alina was getting embarrassed, she was blushing. So I stood up and got to Alina's ear so only she could hear me, not Jacob. "It's alright Alina! Don't get your knickers in a twist, we all make stupid little remarks, and honestly I thought yours was pretty funny! I'm sure Jacob liked it too!" I spoke softly, cupping my hands around her ear so The sound wouldn't escape. I lifted my eyebrows while walking away and sat back down in front of Jacob, continuing with my fiddling with the sand except this time i decided to make a joke of myself and took a lump of sand, laid back and let the grains of sand roll down my stomach. It made a tickling feeling, that made me giggle.

I smiled. "Thanks, Emily," I whispered. I sat down next to her and laughed as the grains of sand ran down her stomach. I was feeling better now. You know, that's the thing about Emily: She's always so nice, so its impossible to dislike her. I see why Sam wants to spend every minute with her. Any guy would probably love to be in Sam's place. I always felt bad for Leah, though. I mean, she was dating him first. Anyways, back to reality. I began messing around with the sand like everyone else, running my hands through it absent mindedly.

"No problem." I mouthed with no words coming out. I saw Alina beginning to run her hands through the sand, too. So I picked up a little bit, and threw it at her avoiding her eyes, then threw a little bit at Jacob's feet just to catch his attention to hit his stomach with a big wad. I laughed, and smiled vigorously. "Ah. It feels so nice to be away from reality for a little while, I love to act as if I'm 6 again!" I say while emptying another large pile into my right hand, then emptying that one into my left hand, and vice versa.

I laughed as the sand hit me. I threw some back, then at Jake. "I know! Isn't it fun?! I mean, I loved being six- sleeping during school! Of course, that hasn't changed much for some of us- cough cough- Jacob- cough cough," I joked. Then again, I'm not one to talk. I'm so lazy at school- I mean, you have to wake up at freaking 6 AM just to make it on time! Its really annoying.

I laughed at Alina's joke towards Jacob, I myself am not a great fan of school, but I do what i need to and seem to get good grades. "Yes, nap time. The best part of kindergarden, and first grade! I actually sorta like school, honestly!" I blushed at my confession, I mean come-on! Who likes school? i continued swishing the sand grains between my hands.

I laughed as well. "Don't worry, I sorta like school too. I mean, some classes and seeing your friends. I like drama and choir... Oh, and Literature and Debate!" I smiled at Emily. "But, I mean nap time is the only thing I miss. They just stop in the middle of lower school and you're like, 'What the hell? I want to sleep!' in the middle of the day!"
