"Jesus take the wheel, take it from my hands. Cause I can't do this on my own..."
The female voice that filled the confines of the silver, Honda Civic did not blend in well with the Carrie Underwood song, the voice was far too high. But that did not matter, not to Lily who pulled her perfect brows together in obvious concentration as the longest note of the song pulled out of her tiny chest. Yes, she was a decent singer, but nothing out of the ordinary. Isn't that what she'd wanted in the first place? To just blend in the crowd and be as unnoticeable as possible?
Of course.
Cautiously, Lily managed to ease the small car off the side of the highway and onto a patch of gravel that had meant to be some sort of shoulder. Her amethyst nails rapped against the steering wheel, producing a sound that most would fine quite bothersome. Quickly realizing the habit, she desisted immediately before reaching over towards the passenger seat where the black, bulky camera sat. She leaned towards the dashboard, allowing her eyes to raise towards the cloudy sky as she undid her seatbelt with haste. There was a promise of rain and Lily did not want to be caught in it.
The petite girl switched the car off and slid easily out of the seat, slamming the ajar door behind her with unnecessary force. She stood for a moment, unmoving as she fiddled with the thin leather strap that hooked onto each side of the 35 mm camera, which was quite old by a mere observation. But nevertheless, it still took good pictures which had been enough reason for her to keep the thing.
A pair of small, blue vans shuffled across the highway gravel as Lily blindly made her way to the center of it with the camera raised her face. Through the lens, she had a perfect view of the empty road with nothing but the thick, uneven rows of trees lining each side.
"Perfect," she muttered as the pair of curved lips tugged upwards in satisfaction.
Click!
Her body pivoted until the she spotted the narrow trail whose entrance appeared to have been somewhat overgrown, obstructing it from view. A shiver dance up her spine, shaking her tiny frame despite the purple and dark gray cashmere sweater the clung to her form.
Should I be here? What if this is a bad idea...
Quickly, she dismissed the idea and chided herself for the silly thought. School was the last place she wanted to be at, and a scenic walk sounded much more appealing. She hadn't even noticed that her slender fingers were still wrapped around the device until she shuddered once more. Letting the camera drop, she let it hang around her neck, bouncing with each step she took as she stalked into the green forest.
