I made my way into the noiseless Station earlier than usual. Nobody was here, except for myself. I heard the floor creak as I took my own slow steps towards my desk. I slowly sat down, which made an emphasis on the creaking noise CRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAKKKKK. that was the only sound I could hear. I reached my arm across my desk to turn on my scanner, and wait to get any calls, or hear about problems in the area. I looked out the front window, and saw my police cruiser parked spot on right in front.
I figured there might not be any calls for a while, and debated on taking a nap. I decided it would be best, to just sit, and wait for a call. I continued to look out onto the streets watching three or four cars drive by every few minutes, and watch the happy families driving down to La Push for the day. I began to ponder about my own daughter, and how well we'd been getting along the past six months. Excluding the falling-down-the-stairs-and-out-the-window incident, she had tried to leave me then, but she came back. Then going from my daughter i began to think about what we might eat tonight. Maybe Bella would cook some lasagna for me, while I watch the basketball game with Billy. I got out of my thought when i heard a few things on the scanner but, out of this town. I just listened to what was going on so I'd be entertained.

Esme had decided that it was a good day for baking. She didn't normally bake but it seemed like a good idea to send warm cookies to the people whom helped keep their community safe. It also helped with keeping their little secret from leaking out. After her baking was done she decided her first stop would be the police station. She felt awful about what Charlie Swan had to go through a few months earlier.
She parked next to his Police Cruiser, gently picked up a plate of neatly arranged cookies of all shapes and flavors and walked into the Police Station. She rang the bell and was ready with her yummy surprise.

Charlie was doodling on his paper when he heard a bell coming from the door, he looked up to see a petite smiley Esme at the door, ringing the bell, with full hands of what looked like very organized cookies. After seeing the cookies Charlie pushed his chair back, and walked slowly but swiftly to the door, trying not to show his eagerness for the cookies Esme was most likely to give to Charlie. He opened the door and gave a light smile, and signaled her to come inside. He saw the cookies once again with a breath of cookie filled air, which sent all of his food senses wild. They look so, so, so, yummy! Charlie thought "Come on in, Esme! What brings you here?" I asked although it was quite obvious as to why she was here, and I pulled out a chair next to my desk for her to sit.

Esme watched as Charlie motioned for her to enter his office. She stepped lively yet gracefully not to disrupt the cookies on her plate. After she entered his office she placed the plate on his desk before sitting down in the chair Charlie had pulled out for her.
"Thank you, Officer Swan. I thought it would be nice to thank those who have done their part to protect our children and town. It means so much to so many of us. I've made some cookies for you and your fellow officers." She was genuinely grateful for their work though she knew her children could more than handle themselves.
"How have you been?" She thought it would be nice to talk to Charlie. If Alice's predictions were right they would be in-laws one day and they should know each other a little better.

Charlie sat down in his chair listening to Esme talk, as she quietly took her seat on the chair i pulled out for her, and took one medium sized cookie, and placed it in his mouth, taking a soft bite into the delicious cookie.
"Oh thank you Esme! You shouldn't have! These really are delicious though, you have once again not failed to make very good food." Which was true, although Charlie had not eaten much of Esme's food, for she does not cook all that often as he's noticed. However when she did everyone surely enjoyed it.
He placed his hand on the table to balance himself as he reached into the desk drawer to grab a napkin, and place his half eaten cookie on the napkin, and leaned back to look at his growing belly, Bella's cooking was really taking it's toll on him, and now Esme was bringing him cookies! Since when did I deserve all of THIS!? Charlie began to wonder.
"I've been doing good, there hasn't been much going on lately." Then Charlie began to remember the past few nights when they found giant wolf like prints on the grassy wet floor of the La Push woods. Charlie leaned forward and spoke softly as if being cautious of non-existent ears, "There have been a few reports lately. The La Push Woods, me and my officers have found several dead this past month, but we were trying to keep it under wraps until we knew what it was, but unfortunately at this rate i'm not sure if we will ever find out, excluding the massive foot prints in the earth. They strangely enough.. look a lot like dog feet but, much, much larger."

Esme gave a slight and graceful nod of her head in thanks to Charlie's compliment. "I wish they could be as good as the gratitude we feel everyday knowing you are taking care of us."
Then Charlie began to speak of bodies near La Push and how there were large doglike footprints. She became worried for what that meant they hadn't seen or heard of the werewolves in quite some time. It seemed they deemed it fit to show themselves again. There were a few questions that puzzled her about the situation. She would have to tell Carlisle and the others later.
"I'm sorry to hear that. How are the Quileute doing in such a frightful time?" She was sincerely worried for the tribe. She hated to see harm brought to humans.

Charlie leaned back into his chair getting ready for the long conversation ahead, and took another bite of his cookie. When He talked about the bodies, Esme cringed which took one less person of the suspect list, although it did not look human, but Charlies officers continued to tell me it was the work of a cruel-minded human. He smiled at the complement that Esme gave him, about protecting everyone. Charlie laughed, and told her she treated his protecting others like charlie was a saint or something. After a few moments of silence she asked me of the Quileute tribe.
"Billy and Jacob are doing just fine. I haven't seen Seth nor Leah in quite a bit, but Sue and Harry, seem to be doing great. I have warned them of the woods and the tracks and they assured us they'd keep a look out." He was worried too, about the families lives, and even offered them 24 hour protection living in Forks for a few weeks but they had declined it. Charlies face was in a thin tight line as Esme's was quite grim herself.

Esme could tell that Charlie was upset by the information himself. She had known that he was quite close to some of the Quileute people. The information he was sharing was bothering him more than he let on and at this she gently sighed and took a cookie herself. She took a small bite.
"I'm glad I brought these by cookies are my favorite comfort foods though I don't need them often." her voice was smooth with a slight hint of pain and fear for the quileute.
She thought it would be best if Charlie calmed down a little. The pain in Charlie's face was causing her to worry about him. She didn't want Bella to have to see this and she definitely didn't want it to ruin the mood of their home.
"Who do you think could bring about such chaos and distruction?" bringing up words he had spoken a moment ago. She was curious as to what his suspicions were.

The anger and frustration Charlie had built up over the past few days had finally started to cease a slight bit, now that he had let everything loose to Esme. It couldn't hurt if he brought up a couple of his suspicions when Esme asked Charlie about it. In fact he had thought at first it was teens who made the large footprints until the whole team discovered a dead body on the first day.
"I'm thinking someone out of this town, but if were speaking of this town.." Charlie bit his lip, nervously deciding whether he really should speak the truth or not, he lowered his voice. "I don't think we should speak about this.. However I can tell you that the bodies were completely drained of blood with not trace of it anywhere in the woods. I suspect the murderer's did the deed, elsewhere. No fingerprints nothing," He paused for a second enclosing his suspicions, "Maybe the murderer was even immortal." They fell silent for a few minutes, then Charlie laughed and stood up to grabbing a recording device, thinking maybe he could talk to Esme about this.
"But that would be impossible." He gave a warm smile. "Mrs. Cullen would you mind it if I could ask you a few questions just for the cases sake." He waited paciently as he awaited Esme's answer.

Esme sat still almost too still. She made sure to blink every few seconds and to breathe. "No." she gasped as he spoke of the bodies being drained of blood. She hadn't known of any vampires in the area. Then she was worried about Bella and the whole James thing that had occurred a few months back. She was intrigued by Charlie's immortal statement. If only he knew how right on he was. There was dead silence for a few moments and then Charlie laughed. She joined him in his silly laughter.
"Yes impossible indeed. Mr. Swan of course you can ask me any question you wish." She sat returning his warm smile though she was still troubled by the information she had just received. This was something she would discuss with Carlisle.

Charlie gave Esme a small smile to ease her when he began the small questioning, "I only have 2 questions so you don't need to worry, at all!" He thought up his two questions and pressed to start button on the recorder. "From 3 weeks prior, up until today, have you seen anything odd at all? Have you been to the La Push area at all during this time?" Charlie sat back as Esme pondered for her answer.

Esme seemed to have taken a human moment to think of anything she could have heard or seen. Though it only took her less than half of that time to actually come up with an answer. She looked into Charlie's eyes and was able to answer him honestly.
"I don't seem to remember seeing anything out of the ordinary and I've only been to La Push once a very long time ago before we moved here. I spend most of my time at home. Today is a nice exception in which I get to speak to a few of my neighbors like yourself." She said smoothly.
She hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary for herself. If a human saw what she did they would probably have a heart attack. La Push was just out of the question. They would not break the treaty with the Quileute which meant no visiting on their behalf.
